The Competent, Unique Gail Zappa...

Meeting Gail Zappa was a trip. It's like those children's books where the top doesn't fit with the bottom - because in a world of insanity, Gail was steady, solid, the quinetessential Betty Crocker.

I only met her twice. It was not at the infamous Log Cabin - she and Frank and kids had movcd by then and were living in a 'normal' Brady bunch sort of house. My friend told me "You are going to love Gail, she will make you feel so welcome."

She did. Gail could do it all, juggle a baby on her hip, stir spagetti on the stove, answer the question of a toddler, pacify Frank and intently listen to the story of my life.

She could multi-task and stay in a good mood throughout.

I don't know what happened when the GTO's lived at their house. I never met anyone associated with the GTO's and I don't think I want to - I'm afriad of women like who look like they are going to devour not only you but your boyfriend when you turn your back.

Gail is the most self assured person I met. No typical in Los Angeles, that's for sure.

Like I said I met her twice. One of the times I spent the night at her house. We stayed up talking until late while the guys played around in the studio. She made tea and great muffins.

I was so happy to find all these pictures of her and her family. I know she missed Frank but I'll bet she's still juggling life very well on her own.
